Remove the fan and fan pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, \u201cFan \u2013 Remove and Install\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE Keep all parts clean and free of foreign matter.<\/p>\n<p>Foils will cause rapid wear and shorten component life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Always be careful to ensure that fluids are contained when inspecting, servicing, testing, adjusting, and repairing the product.<\/p>\n<p>Be prepared to collect the fluid in a suitable container before opening any chamber or disassembling any component that contains fluids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dispose of all fluids in accordance with local regulations and directives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.obd2tool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Disassemble-Caterpillar-320D2-Excavator-Water-Pump.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"617\" height=\"629\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.obd2tool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Disassemble-Caterpillar-320D2-Excavator-Water-Pump.jpg 617w, https:\/\/www.obd2tool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Disassemble-Caterpillar-320D2-Excavator-Water-Pump-294x300.jpg 294w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 617px) 100vw, 617px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1. Drain coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container to store or discard the coolant. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, \u201cCooling System Coolant \u2013 Change\u201d for the correct procedure.<\/p>\n<p>2. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the hose from the water pump inlet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.obd2tool.com\/goods-333-Best+quality+CAT+Caterpillar+ET+Diagnostic+Tool.html\">Caterpillar CAT Communication Adapter 3 Control Group (478-0235) High quality with CAT ET 2019C software<\/a><\/p>\n<p>3. Remove bolts (4), (5), and (8). NOTE: The bolts come in three different lengths. Note the locations of the three different length bolts.<\/p>\n<p>4. Remove the water pump (3) from the front cover (1). NOTE: If necessary, tap the water pump with a soft hammer to loosen it.<\/p>\n<p>5. Remove the gasket (2).<\/p>\n<p>6. If necessary, remove the cover from the water pump. Follow steps 6.a through 6.c to remove the cover.<\/p>\n<p>a. Remove the bolts (9).<\/p>\n<p>b. Remove the cover (7).<\/p>\n<p>c.
