The CAT Caterpillar ET3 Communication Adapter III is the latest dealer-level diagnostic interface designed for Caterpillar engines and heavy equipment.
Combined with the new Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) 2026A software, this professional diagnostic solution allows technicians to diagnose faults, program ECMs, run calibrations, and monitor machine performance.
The CAT Comm Adapter III replaces older Caterpillar diagnostic adapters such as Comm Adapter II, 466-6258, and 317-7487, providing faster communication and improved compatibility with modern Caterpillar machines.
The Caterpillar Communication Adapter III (ET3) is the official interface used by Caterpillar dealer workshops. It connects a laptop running CAT ET software to the machine’s Electronic Control Modules (ECMs).
This adapter supports multiple data links including J1939, J1708, and proprietary CAT protocols, enabling reliable communication with a wide range of Caterpillar engines and machines.
The CAT ET3 diagnostic kit typically includes:
CAT Communication Adapter III (Part Number: 317-7485)
CAT ET 2026A Diagnostic Software
Driver installation CD
USB cable (Adapter to PC)
J1939/J1708 diagnostic cable (Adapter to vehicle)
Hard protective case with foam inserts
Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) is the official diagnostic software used by Caterpillar service technicians. It runs on a Windows PC and communicates with machine ECMs through a diagnostic adapter.
The latest CAT ET 2026A (03/2026) version replaces older releases such as:
CAT ET 2025C
CAT ET 2025B
CAT ET 2023C
With CAT ET 2026A, technicians can perform a wide range of diagnostic and maintenance operations:
View active and logged diagnostic codes
Monitor ECM events and system alerts
Display live engine parameters (temperature, pressure, etc.)
Record and log machine performance data
Graph real-time system parameters
View and modify ECM configurations
Perform diagnostic tests and calibrations
Generate diagnostic reports
Print service and analysis results
Additional functions are available depending on the specific machine model and engine type.
